TOP 7 INSTANT NETFLIX PIX (4/21/13)

A new week is upon us and with each end of the day we may look for a cool flick to help us unwind.  While we have our DVD collections, we know we don't watch our movies over and over, so we search out movies we haven't seen yet on Netflix.

However, much like myself, you may skip over some movies because you just don't know if it's good or not based on the descriptions and mixed reviews....well, worry no more children!  You know you have the same taste in films as I do, so here are some titles you might, or might not, have seen that will put a nice end to a long day of work for the next 7 days:

GHAJINI
If you've seen the movie Memento, you know what Ghajini is about already.

A man is beaten and left for dead after witnessing his girlfriend being killed in front of him.  Now he suffers from short term memory loss so in order to remind himself of his mission of vengeance, he tattoos clues on himself, takes Polaroids and leaves messages for himself to hunt a man called Ghajini.

I personally have not seen Memento so I have no point of reference, but I can say that Ghajini was a great movie and is among my favorite Bollywood films.  Yes, Bollywood.  Please don't be thrown off by "Bollywood", this film is a lot darker than the normal movies of this genre and has lots of action.  There are two (pretty long) songs, but other than that it's all about the action.  Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

4.3829784 out of 5 stars

BAD BOYS
Martin Lawrence and Will Smith towards the beginning of their careers take on this cop flick with everything they've got.

Partners, Marcus and Mike, in the Miami PD are pulled into a hunt for a ruthless French drug runner.  Non-stop action, very funny moments and some of Martin Lawrence's funniest moments make this a great fun film!

I can watch this over and over!  Perfect movie to get the adrenaline pumping!

My Rating:

4.89340985 out of 5 stars

BAD BOYS II
The perfect sequel!  In my opinion, better than the first!

Years later, Marcus is fed up with Mike's run and gun style of cop work and feels it's time to part ways so that he can have more of a chance at living so he can be a part of his family who seem to be growing up and out without him.  The dynamic duo are, once again, pulled into a drug lord's ring of death when bodies are being piled up in their own backyards.

Even more action with a good plot.  What more can I say other than: SEE THIS!

My Rating:

5 OUT OF STARS!!!!!

EVERYTHING MUST GO
Will Ferrell showing his dark comedy side very well outside of the great movie "Stranger Than Fiction."

When a recovering alcoholic loses his job, wife and house all on the same day, he decides to take a stand.  Only problem is that with all his belongings outside the house, changed locks, empty bank account, cancelled credit cards and nowhere to go, that stand will take place right on his front lawn.  In an attempt to make some money, he holds a yard sale for his items and makes some friends along the way.

While he has his funny spots, don't look for the typical Will Ferrell slapstick humor.  This is a dark comedy through and through with a story about the importance of life decisions.

My Rating:

3.8283987 out of 5 stars

TROLLHUNTER
A Norwegian "found footage" film about a crew of people who follow a strange poacher.  Turns out this poacher is not what he seems; he actually works for the government to rid the country of nasty trolls.  No, we're not talking about the Internet hecklers but ones much like the Billy Goat Gruff story (there's actually a scene with a troll under a bridge who is baited out with a live goat!).

This movie covers Norse mythology's trolls very well and adds a nice modern twist to it.  The trolls look very realistic and the plot is very well done.  It lags at some points where the hunter is being interviewed, but that's more because he is very monotone and the entire movie is Norwegian so you'll have to read subtitles.

All in all, a pretty fun movie and one of the better found footage films I've seen.

My Rating:

4.2847234710 out of 5 stars

RAT RACE
A bunch of random people are brought together, by a group of big money tycoons who gamble on anything, to race across the country by any means necessary for a large sum of money.  Each racer encounters their own hilarious obstacles from a man who suffers from severe narcolepsy to a disgraced NFL referee who comes across disgruntled fans who gambled on a game he caused the Dallas Cowboys to lose.

A film just for laughs with a pretty wide cast, it's not to be taken seriously at all.  Just sit back and let it happen and enjoy.

My Rating:

3.4488917452 out of 5 stars

THE HUNGER GAMES
An extremely entertaining movie about a future where a nation is divided into twelve sectors and, after a failed uprising, evil President Snow punishes them by enlisting two children from each sector every year to compete in the Hunger Games.  With the promise of wealth, these children must kill each other until only one remains and is crowned victor.

I haven't read the books so I had a lot of fun seeing this film twice within a three day period.  From what I understand, almost everyone who has read the books was disappointed in the film; so if you haven't read them yet, and plan to, I suggest you watch the movie post-haste.

My Rating:

4.629832471 out of 5 stars

Hope you enjoy your week and that these movies help pass your evenings!
