Still a WAY better love story than Twilight!
When Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) was a wee lad, he was the leader of a band of rebel teens who had a little secret...Young tragedy Corey Haim moves to Santa Clara in California with his mother and big brother Michael (played by Jason Patric) for a change of scenery. They move into their quirky grandfather's house and quickly realize they aren't in Kansas anymore when they meet strange people like the Frog brothers (played by the other half of the "Corey Twins" Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) whose parents own a local comic store and Star (played by the beautiful Jami Gertz) who has ties to Bauer's team of Lost Boys.
As Michael falls for Star, he realizes he's bitten more than he can chew when it's revealed that the Lost Boys are, indeed, a group of children who never grow old....because they're vampires!!
As David (Sutherland) and his merry men try to recruit a skeptic Michael into their ranks, little brother Sam (Haim) is having the truth revealed to him by the Frog brothers about vampires in .
While all of the brothers work out their issues in dealing with the vampire threat, Sam and Michael's mother and grandfather both seem to be ignorant as to the mess that's going on....but eventually they get involved too.

This is a cult classic and probably one of the greatest vampire movies of all time. The action, the story, the acting and the music all together combine to make a winning formula that you can watch over and over again even though you know the outcome.
After this movie hit, Sutherland was propelled to superstar status along with Corey Feldman (who had both previously starred together in the classic movie Stand By Me) and Corey Haim. There were rumors of a sequel and even a script for a planned prequel, but because of the schedule of the stars it never came to fruition.
Because the film is so epic, I have to mention the subsequent comic that follows 3 years after the events of the movie end.
Lost Boys: Reign of the Frogs
David tries to find the whereabouts of Michael and Star to get his revenge. Sam and the Frog brothers, once again, must battle him and try to stop him from getting his way.

Again, because the stars had such hectic schedules, we couldn't get a sequel in theaters, but I'll take the comic any day over a poorly made movie because the ability to be creative is endless and the story itself is what's attractive rather than just the actors.
Speaking of poorly made sequels; out of principle alone, I watched the horrible followups.
Lost Boys: The Tribe
21 years after the debacle with David and the Lost Boys in the original film, Chris and Nicole Emerson (cousins of Sam and Michael) move to Luna Bay and encounter Shane Powers and his tribe of vampires. We find that Shane became a vampire when David and his friends attacked the "Surf Nazis" on the beach in the awesome scene in the first movie.
So now we are asked to believe that this makes Shane the "half-brother" of David (the character of Shane is portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland's real life half brother Angus Sutherland). David's half-brother versus the Emerson's cousins. Does that sound like something you would want to watch?

Essentially everything that happened in the original Lost Boys movie happens in here, except with horrible acting, bad music and a ridiculous theme (it's essentially surfing vampires).
Why was this so bad? Well, the original script was actually supposed to be surfing werewolves as a stand alone movie (not sure how well that would've turned out), but the studio turned it down because it was so similar to the original Lost Boys. After some consideration, the studio asked the writer to edit the script to make the werewolves vampires so that it could be a sequel to the original Lost Boys.
Fail.
There is no redeeming quality to this movie. The only 2 bright points, and they're not that bright, are the ending sequence after the credits in which Edgar Frog comes face to face with a fully turned Sam Emerson; and the cover song for the epic song "Cry Little Sister" which, for me, added the creepy factor to the original Lost Boys.
Lost Boys: The Thirst
\A drug similar to vampire blood from the popular show True Blood, reunited Frog brothers and a new vamp in town that lures kids in with huge underground raves.....all ingredients for another stab to the name of the Lost Boys.
Edgar and Alan Frog attempt to stop a new vampire from sacrificing the brother of a blogger who has enlisted their help to infiltrate a rave where he will be.

With the bad story and execution, we get information regarding Sam, Laddie (the child from the original movie), Michael and Star. It turns out Sam was killed by Edgar, Laddie has grown up to have a wife and child and has moved on in life, Michael and Star faked their death by car accident and have gone into hiding.
We're also given a teaser regarding the possible existence of werewolves....but thankfully it's only thrown in there for fun and nothing will come of it.
This is a prime example of a franchise falling from grace. The Lost Boys started with a history making theme, story, characters and even soundtrack, and the studio slowly sucked the blood out of the name with its sequels.

But let's just bask in the awesomeness of the original that was birthed in the AWESOME 80s!!
