SHOCKTOBER DAY 1: 28 DAYS LATER

A bunch of not undead zombies running around England at full speed.....yea, it's scary.

Rage.  Rage has a way of blinding people and sending them into a fit they cannot control.  What makes this film scary is that we are not dealing with slow moving zombies, but people who are infected with rage.  Not only are they fearless, but they run like the wind and beat their victims to death (rather than eating them).

28 Days Later opens up with some animal rights activists invading a lab where scientists are experimenting on monkeys.  The subject of their experimentation is rage and if it can be physically injected into living organisms.

Turns out it can.

The scientists and activists find this out the hard way as a monkey is let loose and immediately attacks someone.  We see that the "Rage Virus" is transferred incredibly easily through the passing of even a single drop of fluid from the host to the victim (and trust me, there's a lot of fluid!).

"I took anger management....please let me in now."
As the people either die or turn, we see that they start to escape the lab, thus taking the highly contagious virus onto the streets of England!

We pick up the aftermath of the lab incident an undisclosed amount of time later (28 days, duh) and are introduced to the protagonist of the film (played by the talented Cillian Murphy) who wakes up in an empty hospital.  We follow him as he tries to figure out what's happened to his city and why everyone he's run into is angry at him.

"Dude!  I just want a cup of water!"
As you meet more characters along the way, you'll find yourself rooting for their survival while biting your nails hoping "the infected" don't catch up to the group and eventually you find out that panicked people are just as monstrous as the monsters.

Creepy Factor:

I can watch this movie repeatedly (I've already seen it about 20 times) and I still get creeped out thinking about how I would react in the same situation.

I really liked the quality of the picture in the movie as it made everything look gritty and realistic.  On top of that, I felt that people reacted realistically in many of the situations.  But above all, the main theme song of the movie is what gives it the big scary feel.  To this day I cannot listen to the song without thinking about a group of rage infected people chasing helpless victims at full speed.

Hope you watch (or re watch) this movie and get your scare on!

Prepare yourselves for Day 2 of Shocktober!!
