SHOCKTOBER, DAY 2: THE RUINS

You'll never want to visit ruins after this!

In a sort of mash up between monster flick and supernatural thriller, The Ruins delivers a fresh take on horror without being too cheesy or corny.

Two young American couples go on a vacation to Mexico and come across a young German tourist named Mathias who is looking for his brother Dimitri.  According to him, his brother met a female archaeologist and went with her to a dig but hasn't heard from them since.

The couples decide to accompany Mathias to the site as it is an old Mayan temple and the excitement of exploring one was too good to turn down.

Upon reaching the temple, bad things start to happen when they hear the ring tone of Dimitri's phone chiming from inside the.

Something deadly is happening and it's driving the group apart!

The Ruins gets a lot of grief, but I really enjoyed this film and was on the edge of my seat as the most unexpected thing ended up being the antagonist.  Once you find out what evil lurks in the temple, it's really cool to see how it escalates and how the people themselves add to the tension of the situation.

"Uh.....dude....you might wanna put a band aid on that..."
I remember first watching this movie accidentally and liking it so much that I bought the DVD (and it takes a really interesting movie to get me to buy DVDs)!

This should do for a nice little scare tonight!
