SHOCKTOBER, DAY 4: CLOVERFIELD

The Godzilla of New York City!  No, not the one from 90's starring Ferris Bueller!

So we're moving into the monster-horror sub-genre tonight with Cloverfield!

Let's get something straight before you start hurling those stones at me:  in the movie world, horror is probably the most difficult to deliver properly.  It takes more than just a sense of realism in both situation and antagonist.....it takes an active imagination of the viewer.  After so many years of being desensitized to horror because of progressive technology and (sometimes horrible) CGI, horror movie creators have to give us audiences an enticing story with the hopes that we will open our mind's eye and see ourselves in some of the most unrealistic situations ever.

So basically, let your imagination run wild!

Now, with that said, on to Cloverfield!

The story follows a group of young adults who are on a mission to get to the apartment of the estranged girlfriend of the group leader.  The problem is that between them and the girlfriend lies a battleground where a raging monster is rampaging through the Upper West Side and causing all kinds of problems.

"Monster tore off Lady Liberty's head?!  Oh no he didn't!!"
Can this band of misfits survive the journey through the city without the aid of public transportation?  Only time will tell.

Creepy Factor:

This flick is one of my favorites in the monster genre.  I must have seen it about 17 times already and it's still as good as the first time I saw it.  Cloverfield is full of surprises and, in my opinion, opened the playing field for found footage horror movies to come.

If you haven't seen it, you definitely need to give it watch.  If you have seen it, give it another watch with an open and imaginative mind....you might like it more.
