SHOCKTOBER, DAY 3: STAKE LAND

Forget the zombie apocalypse...the Vampocalypse is among us!!

If you like vampire movies featuring REAL vampires (not sparkling fairies who skip through the woods and play baseball) that suck blood and destroy lives, look no further!

Not a vampire.
Stake Land, the little known indie film, pleasantly surprised me when I decided to watch it after reading a review about it last year.  It not only delivers "jump scare" moments, but it gives you a real sense of dread as you see that the world is not getting any better with vampires quickly taking over.

In a time when the world is apparently being overrun by vampires, we follow a young boy who meets a vampire killer, only known as "Mister", when his family is slaughtered by a vampire.

If you're a bloodsucker, this is the face you DON'T want to see.
They travel north across the United States in hopes of getting to Canada where they believe there is a much less substantial vampire threat due to the cold climate.  Along the way they meet some people who join them in hops of finding a better place to live, avoid vamps, and try to avoid a gang who has assumed control of most roads after the collapse of the government.

This movie is a wild ride and makes sure not to leave you with any of those long, drawn out periods of nothingness.  Every minute is dedicated to furthering the journey of the group and showing the growth of the boy in a hopeless world.

Creepy Factor:

I really like the fact that this movie starts right away with action and doesn't let up.  It's like watching a combination of Zombieland and The Walking Dead with vampires and without the comedy.  I especially love how the vampires are the primary threat, but not the only one.

Trust me, you need to watch this for a nice scare.
