Yesterday a movie called "The Collection" hit theaters. I thought I'd review the prequel to this film because I think this could be a sleeper.
The Collector was a very underrated movie that hit theaters with little fanfare in 2009. I happened to catch this movie a few months ago on Netflix and ended up really enjoying it! This flick is the directorial debut of Marcus Dunstan who was the screenwriter for a couple of little movies you may know called Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI & Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. So when you catch this movie (and you SHOULD), you're gonna see a lot of Saw-inspired things.
So what's the movie about? Very simple: Arkin (yes, like Madonna, he only has one name) is fresh out of prison, he owes his ex-wife a lot of money, finds work as a handyman and decides to rob his rich boss....but there's one problem: on the night Arkin decides to rob his employer, a VERY sadistic serial killer decides HE wants to have some fun with the family as well.
This is no ordinary killer. This man enjoys making his victims suffer. He rigs the house with traps (much like Saw) and Arkin is caught right in the middle! Now all he's trying to do is get out alive.
I really enjoyed this movie! It's very disturbing, bloody and full of "OMG!" moments. The traps and deaths were really cool and I felt the intensity of trying to escape the killer's maze. Don't look for a big story behind this movie, there is none. It's a straight slasher flick where you never know who the killer is.
My Rating:
4.24850930563158 out of 5 stars
Now I suggest you check out The Collector before seeing The Collection (if you haven't already seen it) because it appears Arkin is the main character in the sequel. After the way The Collector ended, I'm curious to see how it's possible that Arkin is in The Collection...I also can't wait to see how the killer's home turf is rigged as it seems they're going to his territory rather than him setting up camp in someone else's house!
Here's a preview of The Collector followed by a preview of The Collection:

Are you planning on seeing The Collection? I'm really looking forward to seeing it!
Enjoy your day kids
