THE LAST STAND (ARNIE'S FIRST STAND BACK IN FILM)

He's Back

The Guvnah shoots his way into theaters for his first lead role in a movie in 10 years!

There really isn't that much to say about The Last Stand except it's much like all Arnold's other movies: more action than substance....but still awesome!

A cartel boss escapes from police custody and takes off in a custom high speed car for the Mexican border.  The route he's chosen takes him through a tiny rural town where the river is narrowest going into Mexico.  Hiring mercenaries to clear the path for him, he believes it's going to be smooth sailing....but little does he know that an aging Terminator with big guns patrols the streets of this town!!

"I could use an oil can right now...."
The story is setup nicely with the town being practically empty because the folks love high school football and are all going with their team to another town for a big game (this is the norm in southwestern states).  Now the sheriff and his deputies are left in the town with a handful of people thinking it's gonna be a nice little weekend of peace and quiet.  Mayhem ensues as the mercenaries try to clear the town so the cartel boss can mosey his way on through.

Let's face it, not only is Arnold old, but it shows all too much now.  Unlike Sylvester Stallone, Arnold's age doesn't fit him well in trying to continue with the action packed career that made him famous.  Stallone has, at least, kept up his appearance to make his action more believable (steroids and all), while Arnold has gone the more natural route and let his bulk stay on his frame which now wears him down.

"BEFORE" & "AFTER" SHOTS!
SLY'S STILL GOT IT!

Let's also not forget that we love Arnold's movies because of the action, NOT the acting.  He's still a horrible actor, but he still delivers the action.  All the other actors make the movie interesting when someones head isn't being blown off their necks (another great performance by the always awesome and always underrated Peter Stormare)!

Great action, good acting, decent story....sounds like a classic Arnie flick!  While I enjoyed it, I wouldn't watch this in theaters if I knew what I was walking into, I'd be fine waiting for the DVD.

Overall, a fine return to his former glory; but don't look for him to go shirtless anytime soon.  Those days are long gone for him unless Stallone brings him to the gym for his workouts!

Arnold fans, rejoice!  He's got about 7 more movies in the works to be released (or filmed) between now and 2014!

My Rating:

3.847295723675 out of 5 stars

Hasta la vista baby
