HUMP-DAY NETFLIX PIX

So we're here again folks:  The middle of the week.  Wednesday.  Too early in the week to go out and too far removed from payday to go to the movies.  What to watch, what to watch?!

Fear not my dears, for I bring you glad tidings that should bring you great joy!  I have three flicks on Netflix Instant that will help you get through the rest of the week so that those boring after work hours will just fly by!

Wednesday night:

What better way to celebrate the repetitiveness of our lives, and our ultimate goal of breaking that repetition, by watching a movie about a man whose life is centered around repetitiveness and his desire to break out of the endless cycle?

In one of Jim Carrey's best performances (and one of his most grossly underrated movies of all time), Truman Burbank is the star of the ultimate reality show: his own life!  He has no idea that he was born and raised on camera, and that his life is televised as the best show on television around the world.

When he goes "off-script" by falling in love with an "extra" in his life, the truth starts to become apparent to him little by little as he questions everything.

My Rating:

4.55558211238 out of 5 stars

This is such an underrated film and it capitalized on the popularity of reality television WAY before it got out of hand.  A true gem and a classic Jim Carrey performance at about the end of the time he was still top dog in comedy.

Thursday night:

OK, yes, this is an animated movie.  Yes, before you throw this on you will think this is a movie strictly for children.  However, humor me for a second:

This movie is AWESOME!  If you're a comic fan, a superhero fan, a superhero movie fan, or all of the above, you will enjoy this movie!

Superman is cleaning up Metropolis.  He's doing his Man of Steel duty.  He's known for catching bad guys and bringing them to justice.....but new superheroes step up.  This group, who call themselves The Elite, have a different agenda.  They believe in killing villains so that they will no longer be threats.

Now there's a problem as Superman believes in justice, not being an executioner.  This leads to major confrontations between the group and Superman that turns into all out war!

My Rating:

4.72477812 out of 5 stars

The story is thick and detailed, the action is plentiful and heavy, the dialogue is very adult oriented (minus bad language) with the question of where does a superhero draw the line of responsibility.

We're living in a new age my friends; animated superhero movies aren't just for kids anymore!  They're geared towards adults now.

Try it out.  You won't be disappointed!

Friday night:

So it's Friday and maybe you don't have plans to go out; or maybe plans fell through; or maybe you just want to stay home and hang out with some people.  Well whether you're watching it alone or with a group or with a significant other, Warrior is where it's at!

Tom Hardy rocks the screen as a younger of two brothers who grew up in an abusive household that returns home from the Marines to live with his estranged (and ex-alcoholic) father.  Upon working out a local gym, Tommy is offered a shot at entering a 24 hour, single elimination tournament featuring the greatest cage fighters around the world with the winner taking home a big pot of cash.  He aims to win the tournament for a noble reason despite his not so noble background.

On the other side of the spectrum, Tommy's big brother (played by Joel Edgerton) has fallen on hard times trying to make ends meet for his family who he keeps away from his father because of the abuse he suffered as a child.  In order to make extra money, he fights at local bars; when the opportunity to enter a winner take all fighting tournament presents itself, he takes it to save his family financially.

My Rating:

4.8237548 out of 5 stars

The fight scenes and Tome Hardy's performance alone are worth the rating.  It helps that Nick Nolte and the rest of the cast are great supporters in this flick.  Watch for former WWE superstar (and current TNA wrestler) Kurt Angle who makes a phenomenal cameo as a fighter!

There you have it!  Your Netflix Instant answer to passing the time after work the next few days before the weekend!

Enjoy!

Jay
