FOR THE VIN DIESEL FANS

"On your mark....get set....."

I gotta admit, I like Vin Diesel's movies.  I think he's a great action star and can pull off some quality acting (watch A Man Apart for some acting but watch Find Me Guilty to REALLY see Vin Diesel in a role outside his comfort zone...and pull it off GREAT).

Yes, his roles are very similar: bald bruiser who is an exceptional fighter, extremely intelligent and resourceful.

But unlike Jason Statham (who also plays the bald tough guy in every movie), Vin Diesel doesn't make me feel like I'm watching the same character over and over in every film.  I don't know about you guys, but no matter what Statham movie comes out, I STILL see him as the Transporter.  There had to have been about 20 Transporter movies already right?  Let's see:

1. Transporter - 2002
2. Transporter 2 - 2005

Jason Statham - The Transporter
3. Crank - 2006 (the Transporter goes crazy)
4. Transporter 3 - 2008
5. Crank 2 - 2009 (the Transporter goes crazy again)

Jason Statham - Crank
6. The Expendables - 2010 (the Transporter finds a group of friends)
7. The Mechanic - 2011 (the Transporter just sticks to killing people)

Jason Statham - The Mechanic
 8. Safe - 2012 (the Transporter helps another Asian girl escape)
9. The Expendables 2 - 2012 (the Transporter plays with his friends again)
10. Parker - 2013 (the Transporter is now a thief)

Jason Statham - Safe

Okay, maybe not 20 movies, but come on...you've gotta admit it's true!  We still see the Transporter when we see Jason Statham.

Now Vin Diesel, on the other hand, may be typecast to a certain role, but his acting is just good enough to make you see him differently in each movie.  Xander Cage (from xXx) is different from Riddick who is different from the Pacifier who is different from Dom Toretto who is different from Toorop (Babylon A.D.).  Maybe it's because their worlds are vastly different, who knows?  But I say Vin is a good actor with some of my favorite action movies on his resume...and let's not forget that the dude was a self made success that started as an unknown director and writer BEFORE becoming one of the top action guys in Hollywood (see Strays for his directional and starring role debuts).

So now here are a few updates and tips that you may or may not know about concerning the V-man's past and upcoming films:

1. If you're a Fast & Furious fan but (like me) don't have Blu Ray or just haven't researched too well, there is a short film that was written & directed & starring Vin Diesel and some of the crew from Fast & Furious 4 that explains how the crew got together for the heist at the beginning of the movie.  It's only about 20min and it's a nice little intro to a good movie.  Click here to check out Los Bandoleros!

2. The first Chronicles of Riddick movie took place BEFORE Pitch Black!  There was a 60min long made for TV movie called Into Pitch Black which was made (obviously) before Pitch Black and talks about Riddick!   You'll have to do some digging to find this movie as I'm not sure if it was released on any special DVDs of Pitch Black (maybe Blu Ray has it?)

3. There's no release date yet, but xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is a go!  That was one of my favorites.

4. Fast & Furious 6 is coming out on May 24, 2013!  Should be great as Vin Diesel & Paul Walker are touting it as the best one of the series!  Football fans will get first look at FF6 as the first trailer for it will air during the Superbowl!

5. Next Riddick movie is coming out September 6, 2013!  Next year looks to be Mr Diesel's year!  Let's see where our favorite fugitive takes us in Riddick!

So there you have it.  Vin Diesel is making a nice comeback next year again (has anyone else noticed that he makes a couple of movies one year and disappears for the next year?  Look up his career and see for yourself!)...looks to be a fun time!

Be well

Jay
